Course - Preparation for GCSE English

  • Entry requirements There are no formal qualifications, but you do need basic competence in reading and writing, and we will test you to make sure this is the right course for you.
  • Course description Duration of course:
    One year, one evening per week

    Classes start on Thursday 13th September 6pm - 8.45pm or Saturday 15th September 10am - 12.45 pm.

    What does it include?
    This course is intended for people who wish to gain GCSE English Language, but who need more than one year to reach the standard. It is also appropriate for people who wish to improve their English without wishing to take an examination at the end. It aims to improve skills in reading, writing and spoken communication. You will read widely, and practice different kinds of writing. You will work on improving your spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar. You will also engage in discussion, debate and deliver individual talks.

    Over the course you will gain London Open College Units, which will enable you to progress to GSCE or other level 2 courses the following year.
     
    What type of assessment is used?
    The course is continuously assessed. You will submit a folder of coursework.
     
    What else can I study?
    This course can be studied on its own, or it can be added to a programme in the day.
