You should have a good level of English and be able to write reports and undertake home study for about 6-8 hours a week. Applicants will need to complete an application and then have a successful interview with the Course Manager. It is advisable that you have completed Level 2 in Care Course, or any related Course in Level 2
  • Academic title NVQ3 in Health & Social Care
  • Course description General information

NVQs are nationally recognised qualifications based on National Standards which are recognised throughout the UK. Recently the Government has passed legislation to ensure that all care sector employees are qualified to at least NVQ Level 2. NVQs are available at different levels which relate to the type of job you are doing. You can progress from one level to another.

    Course content

At Level 3 you will need to complete four mandatory units and four optional units. This should take you no longer than one year but it is possible to complete in less time.

    The Mandatory Units include:

        * HSC 31 Promote Effective Communication
        * HSC 32 Promote, monitor and maintain Health and Safety
        * HSC 33 Reflect and Develop your own Practice
        * HSC 34/5 Promote choice, well-being and the Protection of all Individuals

Optional Units - these are identified by the student and the assessor in line with the student's job description and role.

    Teaching and assessment

NVQs are vocational qualifications, which means that assessment is completed by a qualified Assessor in your place of work. You will be allocated an Assessor who will work alongside you to ensure that you produce evidence for your portfolio that meets each units specifications. However, there is some written work that needs to be undertaken to complete each unit and so you will need to come into College to attend workshops for delivery of the underpinning knowledge. In College you will receive all the teaching necessary, and you will also be given support to put together your portfolio of evidence.

    Progression

Once students have completed a Level 3 the progression route through to the Foundation degree in Health and Social care is available. This could, following two years study lead to a third year at Greenwich University to complete a BA Hons in Health and Social care or BA Hons in Health.
