Entry requirementsEntry requirements This is a rolling programme, so you can join this course at designated periods throughout the year although the length of the course is one year. An interview. Voluntary or paid employment in a registered child care setting for at least 10-12 hours contact time per week. A' Levels - two qualifications or equivalent, or a wealth of experience. A CRB check is mandatory for all students attending this course. Without one, a student will be unable to complete a work placement, an integral part of the qualification.

Course descriptionGeneral information
This is a one year programme for those who are already working with children but wish to develop practice and to extend their qualification. This award is to qualify you to become a nursery practitioner, to work competently, safely and effectively with children up to 8 years old. Nursery practitioners find work in a variety of work places including nurseries, primary schools, family centres and private homes. With this qualification you can go on to manage or lead centres.
Course content
Units include:

* Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment
* Promote children's development
* Reflect and develop own practice
* Protect and promote children's rights Plus 4 options which you will choose with your assessor.
Teaching and assessment
You will attend workshops that provide you with the underpinning knowledge that will aid you in the completion of a portfolio by the end of one year. The workshops are carried out in the Hawthorn Learning Centre, Hawthorn Grove, Penge on alternate Thursdays 9.30am - 1.30pm. An assessor will be assigned to you and they will come out to your workplace and assess you in practice.
Your personal assessor will assess your practice in your work place. You will produce a wide range of evidence to support your practice, which will be presented in a portfolio. Each unit is individually assessed by experienced Assessors and verified by qualified Verifiers.
