Recently the Government has passed legislation to ensure that all care sector employees are qualified to at least NVQ Level 2. NVQs are available at different levels which relate to the type of job you are doing. You can progress from one level to another providing you are in suitable employment and have the appropriate experience. There is opportunity to proceed to L3 (Supervisory Level), and to L4 (Managerial Level).

    Course content

    Mandatory Units are as follows:

NVQs are vocational qualifications, which means that assessment is completed by a qualified Assessor in your place of work. You will be allocated an Assessor who will work alongside you to ensure that you produce evidence for your portfolio that meets each units specifications. However, there is some written work that needs to be undertaken to complete each unit and so you will need to come into College and attend workshops for delivery of the underpinning knowledge. In College you will receive all the teaching necessary, and you will also be given support to put together your portfolio of evidence.

    Progression

Following your qualification at level 2 you will be eligible to work as a qualified Care Assistant. Your promotion to Team leader or Floor Leader would also make you eligible to enrol on the NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care Programme..
