Course - NVQ Level 3 Childrens Care, Learning and Development
Entry requirementsYou must have a relevant level 2 qualification in childcare (e.g. NVQ2 Early Years Care and Education or Certificate in Child Care and Education). You must also be either employed in childcare or have recent experience of working with young children. This course is designed for local applicants over the age of 18 who wish to find employment in an early years setting or who are already employed and wish to develop their career in working with children. The course tutor will ask for a reference from a recent employer or work placement supervisor. This course is not suitable for overseas applicants.

Course descriptionDuration of course:
This is a one-year course and requires attendance at college one day a week. Applicants need to spend a minimum of three days a week at work or on placement in a setting or service whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development.

Employment with young children in nurseries or other childcare provision.
What does the course include?
The course is made up of the following mandatory units:
Develop and promote positive relationships
Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
Promote children’s development
Reflect on, and develop practice
Protect and promote children’s rights
You will study each of these topics in college and draw on the experience you have of working with the children at your workplace or placement. In addition to this, you will choose 4 units from a wide range of optional units reflecting the work you regularly do with young children. For example, working with children under three years-old, caring for children at home, supporting children with disabilities, planning and implementing curriculum frameworks.
