During this course we aim to enable each student to develop and apply personal, social and practical skills for everyday living. The course is designed to develop confidence and self-esteem, promote an understanding of interpersonal relationships, promote experiential learning in realistic settings, develop decision making skills, encourage a healthy lifestyle and enable the students to recognize themselves as adults.
Course content
The course spans three years. During the Foundation year, the students work towards developing personal and social skills as well as vital skills that will increase independence and motivation. They will follow a broad based curriculum that will include;
* Money/budgeting
* Well-being
* Gardening

* ILT
At the end of the year, the students will have the opportunity to audition for Greengoose to become a member for 2 days a week (see Greengoose for more details).
During the Development year, we aim to develop existing skills. The curriculum for this year includes;
* Cookery and domestic skills
* Understanding relationships
* Creative skills and practical workshops.
The Progression year concentrates on boosting self-confidence and awareness as well as consolidating skills through project work. The students aim to set up a mini enterprise and learn more about the world of work. This year also focuses on ensuring a smooth transition from college to the next step in the students' lives.
Teaching and assessment
Students are taught in small groups, with a maximum of seven in each group. There are learning support staff in each session to assist learners with their personal development. Teaching and learning takes place through mainly practical activities that enable the students to develop their skills in realistic environments wherever possible.
Progression
Students may have the opportunity to progress on to other FE vocational courses at the college.
