Entry requirementsWho is this course for? Suitable for people at all levels. What do I need to get on the course? Interest in the subject.
Academic titleThere are no qualifications but as this is an adult course the emphasis is on the students enjoying their own creativity and learning new skills to express it. There is great satisfaction to be gained by making ones own pieces of jewellery, which is the outcome of the learning process in the class.
Course descriptionWhat is this course about?
This is a student centred course with a lot of individual attention in learning the technical and design skills to make jewellery in silver or other metals. Teaching is largely on a one to one basis with demonstrations and discussions used as necessary.
What will I study?
Beginners will learn about the tools and techniques of jewellery making starting with a project to make a ring. By being guided through this process you will have an introduction to design and learn the basic techniques of piercing, forming, filing, annealing, soldering, finishing and polishing. You can then move on to creating your own designs and, in making them, develop your technical skills. The types of pieces that can be made are, for example, earrings, pendants, neckpieces, rings, bracelets, brooches, cufflinks and small objects.More advanced students will explore their creativity in their own designs and, with advice and help, develop their technical skills even further. Teaching is mainly one to one.
What can I do after the course?
As this course is for all levels it can be done again.
