Course descriptionGeneral information
The University of Greenwich is the validating body for all higher engineering qualifications. These programmes are designed to meet the basic needs of industry but may be biased to meet specific requirements. The Higher National Certificate program is followed on a part-time day basis with industrial experience being obtained at the student's place of work when they are not attending College.
Higher National Certificates are very specialised and reach a high academic standard; in many cases the work is near degree level and that is certainly the case with this particular programme. Successful completion of this HNC programme exempts students from a number of courses within the College's HND in Electronic Engineering. Any of the subjects in the programme may be taken individually by students not following the Higher National programme. Successful students will be awarded individual Certificates of Achievement.
Course content
The award of an HNC requires successful completion of the following seven courses:
* Mathematics
* Engineering Principles (Electrical & Mechanical)
* Mechatronics
* Micro Computers
* Project Management
* Digital Systems Project.
Teaching and assessment
Students will be assessed throughout their course by various methods (e.g. tests, assignments, projects, final examination) as required for each particular course. Details of the assessment procedure for each course is given in the related programme handbook, supplied after enrolment.
