Course descriptionDuration and Levels:
Intensive AS/A2 level: One year - daytime.
AS and A2 Level: Two years - AS in year 1, leading to A2 in year 2.
What does the AS include?
Unit 1:
This introduces students on AS Politics or AS Intensive Politics to the key channels of communication between the government and the people. This includes democracy & political participation, party policies & ideas, elections and pressure groups.
Unit 2:
This introduces AS and AS Intensive Students to major government processess in the UK. This includes The Constitution, Parliament, Prime Minister & Cabinet and Judiciary and Civil Liberties.
What does the A2 include?
Unit 3:
This introduces A2 and A2 Intensive students to key themes in political analysis. In A2 Politics we study the representative process in the USA. In A2 Intensive Politics we study political ideologies.
Unit 4:
This introduces students to external themes in political analysis. In A2 Politics we look at governing the USA. In A2 Intensive Politics we study other political traditions.
What do I need to get onto this AS Level?
You should have GCSE Grade C in English as well as meeting other A-Level requirements. Government and Politics is a very challenging ‘A’ level which requires detailed analysis, the ability to think independently and produce regular, detailed written material.
