Course - Entry Level 3 - Skills for Working Life

    1 year September - July. Daytime

    What does it include?
    This course is for 16-18 year olds who wish to improve their English writing and reading skills to prepare themselves to progressing onto National Courses in Level 1 in the future.
    You will complete taster vocational courses that are offered at a higher level at the college. There are two pathways for the vocational tasters:

    Pathway A
    - Practical Working Skills that include Painting and decorating and Joinery
    - Media
    - IT
            
    Pathway B
    - Health and Social Care
    - Business
    - IT
            
    The courses also include:
    - English
    - Grammar
    - Communication
    - Numeracy
    - IT
    - Tutorials
    - Career advice.

    What do I need to get onto it?

    You will be interviewed to see if you have an interest developing your English skills and working towards vocational subjects in Business, Health and Social Care and IT or in Practical Working Skills and Media. You will also need a good reference from school, connexions or employment, and you will have to take a college literacy test.

    How will I be assessed?
    You will have to produce a portfolio for the vocational tasters consisting of written evidence, photographic evidence and recorded interviews. Literacy comprising of:
    - Speaking
    - Listening
    - Reading and writing

    Will be assessed by Cambridge ESOL exams, Numeracy will be assessed by Edexcel Adult numeracy exam.

    Where does it lead?
    Students can progress onto National Certificate courses at Level 1. This is dependent on excellent tutor report, attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
