Course descriptionWhat is this course about?
It is about studying a variety of literary texts. You will be able to share ideas with your classmates about plays, novels and poems and you will get to write about the texts in a variety of forms ranging from original writing to analytic essays. The new specification you will be following allows for greater opportunity for creative writing. It is an excellent course if you intend to study English at University or study a subject where a mature appreciation of the written word is desirable.
What will I study?
At AS you will study novels, a selection of poetry, a number of drama texts and you will also have the opportunity to produce some original writing of your own.
, In the second year you broaden and deepen your knowledge and understanding of literature. You have the opportunity to study modern world literature as well as more poetry. There is also a unit which provides you with an historical understanding of the development of English Literature.
Courses that are good to study alongside English Literature are textual based subjects like Film Studies, Media Studies, and Drama, as well as most Humanities subjects.,
What qualification will I get? AS-Level English Literature after the first year of study, A-Level English Literature after the second year.
What can I do after the course?
Close to 80% of our A-level students progress to Higher Education. Alternatively, you could choose to enter employment.
