Course description This course is for people who want to write creatively and who need a supportive framework to get going. You may write already, or write non-creatively for a living, or you may not have written a word since school. The course combines inspiration with some technical “how to” and offers the focus and energy you need to get those ideas on to paper. Your tutor/s will be experienced professional writers.
By the end of the course you will be able to :
get started
improve descriptive skills
use language more effectively and imaginatively
create atmosphere
set the scene
develop and describe characters
find your own voice and style.
Allowing for time and student preferences, we may also look at dialogue, pace, plot, theme, genres, writing short stories, monologues and poetry.
We will supply literary extracts, handouts, articles for discussion.
Course Structure:
Weekly modules focussing on different aspects of creative writing. The course syllabus will be negotiated in the group. Classes consist of writing activities in groups, pairs or individually. There will be some analysis of literature. Assignments will be set, marked, discussed and analysed. Participants will be invited to share their work with the group

All students have access to our fully equipped, state-of-the-art Learning Centres at 3 College Centres. This includes free Internet access.
Assessment:
Marked assignments, Teacher feedback Individual learning plans. Student and peer self-assessment. Sharing of work in group. Assessment of file of work.
