Course descriptionDuration of course:
There is no set time for completion of the portfolio, but normally it should be possible to achieve the Award within 18 months. This time is dependent upon all the evidence being provided to our assessor/internal verifiers satisfaction; therefore this period can be reduced.
Where does it lead?
The award of this NVQ allows you to apply for grading as an electrician from the Joint Industries Board (JIB) and membership of the "Electrical Certification Scheme" (ECS). Additionally, industry and certification bodies are recognizing this NVQ Level III as the requirements for deeming a person "competent" within electrotechnical services.
What does it include?
This depends upon where you work within the electrotechnical services sector. As a general guideline, those working in the Electrical contracting/Installation sector are required to submit evidence to prove competency in the following areas:
Core Units:
301 - Ensure safe site working
302 - Diagnose and correct electrical faults
303 - Provide technical and functional information
304 - Maintain a safe and healthy working environment
Occupation route units:
Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures)
305 - Prepare to install wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
306 - Install wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
307 - Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
308 - Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation
Other Occupation route units:
Electrical Maintenance (309 - 311)
Installing Instrumentation & Associated Equipment (312 – 314)
Installing Public Lighting and Associated Equipment (315 – 318)
This NVQ is aimed at people working in electrotechnical services who have already achieved, or are working towards, the C&G 2360 Pt. II award in Electrical Installation work or equivalent.
What do I need to get on to the course?
Relevant employment within the electrotechnical services sector and achievement of, or be working towards, C&G 2360 Pt. II certificate or equivalent.
Where is it based?
As the basis of all NVQs is production of a portfolio in your own time, only the induction and reviews of your portfolio will take place at the Colleges Paddington Basin Campus with assessments occurring at your place of work.
