Course - ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management
Entry requirementsNo previous qualifications are required but you must have a good level of written and spoken English in order to join in discussions and write the coursework. You should have about two years’ work experience. You should be working in or wishing to move into personnel work, but the course is also suitable, for example, for a manager who wishes to gain skills in Personnel and HR management. It is, however, important to be in work because some assignments are work-based, and because you must submit a topic for your Project Proposal – it is not set centrally. If you are not in work, you must be able to arrange voluntary work or a work placement in an organisation willing to allow you to propose and undertake an HR-based Project.
Course description Course Description
This is the first level of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualifications in Human Resources, and covers the essential skills and knowledge of the CIPD Support Level Standards in Personnel Practice. The programme has four modules and includes topics such as recruitment and selection, the business context, employment law, managing performance. The course also inculcates the practice of continuous professional development through reflection - on one’s own learning and on good HR practice. There are no examinations. There is an assignment for each module. In addition each candidate must propose and carry out an investigation into an HR related practice in the workplace. After analysis of data collected, the candidate draws conclusions in the light of good practice, and makes recommendations for change or improvement. The assignments and the project all require related activities and information collection undertaken in your own time. If your written work is not quite up to standard on first submission, there is an opportunity to resubmit it once. Deadlines are tight, so candidates are advised to consider carefully whether they can make the commitment of at least another evening / half-day per week throughout the course for private study, information collection or other course-related activities. Regular attendance is emphasised as part of the commitment to the course. Teaching methods include practical demonstration, formal instruction, pair and group work, discussions, role-play, and tutorials. In addition to course fees, you are required to join CIPD as a student member. The college will make arrangements for this but each candidate is responsible for joining and maintaining membership.
