Course - ACCESS to Social Care

  • Entry requirements Please note all students wishing to take this course need to be 19 years or older at the time of enrolment This course is designed for those looking for careers in social work of some kind, and who intend to go on to study the subject at degree level. Although no formal qualifications are required, you should have some prior experience of voluntary or paid work in the social care field. At interview your level of English will be tested to see if you can cope with the course's demanding schedule of essays, reports etc.
  • Course description Course content:
        In addition to a core of study skills, IT, maths and tutorial, you will study psychology, sociology and social care. You will be required to find a placement in a social care setting during the year. This should involve voluntary work of at least 20 hours in total.

    Course Structure:
        This is a credit based course, and to pass you need to gain a minimum of 54 credits. These are accumulated as the year progresses, mostly through coursework, although examinations are also set in some subjects. Academic and tutorial support is given throughout the course, and you will receive help and advice with your university applications through the UCAS system.

    Course resources:
        All students have access to our fully equipped, state-of-the-art Learning Centres at 3 College Centres. This includes free Internet access.

    Assessment:

        Continuous assessment through essays, exams, assignments and presentations.
