Objectives
We follow the large body of research that directs us to the Client/Customer relationships as a major vehicle for change. The orientation of the course is integration. The Egan three-stage model is offered as a framework for the integration of understanding and practice from a range of theoretical approaches.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements: Applicants are assessed on their personal and intellectual suitability for counselling training and study at masters level. Requirements include: a relevant degree a certificate in counselling Evidence of considerable experience in the field of counselling, relevant life experience and/or relevant professional training/experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree qualification. Assessment will take place through application form, references and interview.

Special features
All successful applicants will be required to apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for an enhanced level check. Your offer of a place will be subject to CRB check.
Module details
The course comprises of seven taught modules and one supervised research project.
The first two years involves attendance at 62 weekly sessions and three weekend blocks and engagement in 175 practice sessions on placement, monthly supervision and personal therapy.
Those who already hold an equivalent Counselling Diploma not awarded by the University of Manchester, may apply to do three MA course units starting in January and, on successful completion of these, join the third year of the MA in September.
The duration of the course falls under two parts
MA Part 1
Wednesdays 11.00am - 6.00pm (times to be confirmed at interview)
Thursdays 1.00pm - 8.00pm
MA Part 2
1 Year, runs Tuesday evenings 4.30pm - 7.15pm.
Teaching and learning
A mixture of didactive and participative, skills training, case discussion, supervision of practice and experiential group work.
Progression and assessment
Academic - written essays, process recordings and analaysis of counselling work, assessed videos and joint learning statements from placements. Also there are elements which are required but not formally assessed such as a learning journal, participation in a PD group and personal therapy.
Within the third year a research dissertation of 12-20,000 words is also required
