  • Entry requirements Entry requirements 220 UCAS points at A-level or good BTEC National or Advanced GNVQ grades. Plus, a minimum of five GCSEs including English and mathematics (Grade C or above). We particularly welcome applications from mature students

  • Course description This programme shares core chemistry courses with the BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree, but is specifically aimed at producing professional chemists with the necessary skills to enter industrial research and development, academic research, or a range of other professional jobs.

    It covers all aspects of chemistry, including analytical chemistry.

    The MChem is the minimum academic requirement to obtain Chartered Chemist status.

    Accreditation will be sought from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

    A major emphasis throughout the course is the development of problem-solving and transferable skills.

    -An Introduction to Analytical Chemistry
    -Fundamentals of Biochemistry
    -Practical Science Skills

    Year Two
    -Further Inorganic Chemistry
    -Further Organic Chemistry
    -Further Physical Chemistry
    -Intermediate Chemistry
    -Analytical Techniques
    -Chemical Investigation

    Year Three
    -Advanced Practical Techniques and Case Study
    -Three options chosen from:
    -Pharmaceutical Analysis and Testing
    -Advanced Inorganic Chemistry
    -Advanced Organic Chemistry or Advanced Physical Chemistry
    -Drug Design and Delivery

    Year Four
    -Individual Project
    -Topics in Contemporary Chemistry
    -Case Study in Chemistry
