Entry requirementsWho is this course for? Students are divided into two classes - one that leads onto the NVQ level 2 or 3 and the other that leads onto the Certificate in Pre-School Practice. Newly appointed and/or unqualified staff in a pre-school setting and parents or volunteers involved in the work of pre-school settings will join the class leading to the Certificate in Pre-School Practice course. No interview is required for this group. Students with a minimum of six months experience in a pre-school setting where they are attending for at least 2-3 full days a week can join the class leading to the NVQ 2 or NVQ 3 in Children`s Care, students will be interviewed before a place is offered. What do I need to get on the course? Class leading to study of the Certificate in Pre-School Practice: although experience is not necessary it is preference if you are already working, in some capacity, with children. Class leading to the NVQ 2 or NVQ 3: you must have a minimum of six months experience in a pre-school setting, attending for 2-3 full days a week. Note: Caring for children demands great sensitivity and compassion. We therefore seek mature candidates, and welcome members of both sexes, since men are under-represented in this area of work.
Course descriptionWhat will I study?
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain an awareness of how pre-schools can provide learning opportunities for children and parents, a fundamental understanding of the management of pre-school settings, including legislation, an understanding of how pre-schools support children`s learning and development, both through the activities and environment they provide and a basic understanding of how adults in the pre-school environment interact with the children.

What can I do after the course?
Level 2 Certificate in Pre-School Practice or other relevant level 2 courses such as NVQ 2 in Children`s Care, Learning and Development.
