Business Management (Legal Regulation) BA Honours

  • Course description
    Course summary:

Business success requires a breadth of knowledge and abilities. This course, which brings together business management theory and practice, will enable you to develop the vision, innovation and dynamism required in the contemporary business world.

On this course, you will gain a broad range of business knowledge and management skills. The course introduces you to different business functions and provides a broad perspective on the global business environment.

With a specialism towards legal regulation you will get a firm understanding of the legal aspects of business and employment – essential for managing and running a business.

You will learn to apply your knowledge of legal theory in areas like consumer protection, international trade and finance law to make informed business decisions.

The course also covers alternative dispute resolution, which will familiarise you with alternatives to litigation.

In each year of study you will take a combination of core and option modules, with increasing flexibility as you move through the degree. You can also study a foreign language as part of the course.

In Year 1 you are introduced to the functions of business organisations, the broader business environment, and key management skills and competences including information gathering and analysis, finance, marketing, and people and organisations. Our Business Management BA and its pathways are designed to allow you more flexibility and provides you with the opportunity to transfer between the various Business Management pathways, should you wish, at the end of your first year.

The core modules in Year 2 focus on how businesses operate (particularly in the digital environment), managing and leading people, and decision making. You will begin to study your chosen pathway for a specialist award, or select modules from across all business areas for a general award. Your Personal and Professional Development Tutor will help you to decide on a programme of study best suited to your abilities and personal career interests. You may wish to study abroad for a semester in the second half of Year 2.

In Year 3 the core modules will enable you to apply critical and reflective approaches to exploring the challenges facing contemporary business at a strategic level, and to develop your specialism further. You will also have the opportunity to complete a project or piece of independent research, investigating an issue of your choice.

Teaching methods focus on active student learning through seminars, workshops, problem-based and blended learning (including group work) designed to engage your interest. Assessment methods may include essays, reports, presentations, case studies, videos, podcasts, wikis, blogs and posters, as well as time-constrained in-class tests and exams.
