Course descriptionGeneral information
This is a post-GCSE course designed to give students a sound education and training in Mechanical Engineering. The course is a more practical alternative to GCE A levels and provides students with an enhanced introduction to HND/Degree courses in Mechanical Engineering. To achieve this aim, this Diploma course will also give the student an excellent background in mathematics and mechanical principles.
Higher Education Institutions (Universities and Colleges) will accept this National Diploma as a qualification for entry to a broad range of mechanical engineering courses. It is especially suitable for students wishing to enter the HNC or HND in Engineering at Bromley College of Further and Higher Education. As an alternative to continuing into Higher Education successful students will be well equipped to enter employment in Mechanical Engineering in design, production management, maintenance and other support areas. Study for an HNC can then be completed on a part time day basis.

There are also three hours a week 'practical' in the workshop using Lathes, Milling Machines, Grinders, Drilling Machines and bench fitting.
Teaching and assessment
Each module will have a series of assignments to be completed which students must pass in order to complete the course successfully. In addition, a strong emphasis is placed on practical work and several assignments, projects and practical units are completed throughout the two years. This course is divided between classroom and workshop, and self structured study.
