BSc Occupational Therapy

  • Objectives You may be at school, in work, a volunteer at your local hospital or a relative of someone who is undergoing occupational therapy. Whatever your reasons for considering a career in occupational therapy, you should look carefully at the options at York St John University.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements You will need: Three GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent), including English Language plus Maths or Science, plus one of the following: * 240 points (including a minimum of two A2 levels or a 12 unit AVCE or a combination) or * 240 points from BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or * Equivalent Scottish, Irish, Welsh or overseas qualifications or * An equivalent qualification to those listed above (eg Access to Higher Education Certificate, International Baccalaureate)

    Modules include

    At Level 1 you will have an opportunity to study subjects such as biological sciences, psychological and social sciences, health, illness and disability and occupational therapy practice.

    At Level 2 the focus is on applied theory and occupational therapy skills within the physical and psychosocial domains, together with practical and experiential learning. There is an emphasis on communication skills, research, IT and occupational therapy specific techniques and approaches.

    At Level 3 you will be able to extend your particular interest through completion of a special study using research and enquiry techniques. You will also have further in-depth preparation for careers and work opportunities.

    At Levels 2 and 3 there are also opportunities for clinical experiences abroad in places such as Norway, India and South Africa.
