  • Objectives The aim of the programme is to provide an academic and practical foundation that will act as a springboard for high quality nursing practice. The programme demands a strong commitment to caring for adults in a variety of settings to promote, maintain and restore health.
  • Entry requirements We ask for 320 UCAS points i.e. AAC or ABB A level grades. Our teaching does not presuppose any previous knowledge of computer science and in selecting candidates for admission we do not insist on evidence of prior competence in computer programming.

    Programme

    Year 1

    Anatomy & Physiology for Nursing 1 & 2: The aim of these modules is to provide students with sufficient learning experiences in human anatomy and physiology to form a foundation for practice in nursing and a basis for progression to each of the three branch programmes where application of knowledge to nursing interventions is required. The two modules examine the contribution of all structures and systems to the integrated functioning of the human body in health. Integral to the course are the homeostatic mechanisms, which support life in response to environmental challenge and the anatomical and physiological changes, which occur throughout the life cycle.

    Year 2

    Public Health: This module aims to provide an understanding of the contribution of nursing to improving mental, physical and social health. To understand the role of the nurse in improving and maintaining well being and health, prolonging life and preventing disease in individuals, groups and populations using a public health approach.

    Year 3

    Advanced Management Skills: The need to demonstrate effectiveness in the management of care is increasingly important within the NHS. This involves the ability to work effectively with others, manage self and work-based situations and to take a leadership role in the provision of patient care. The overall aim of the module is to develop these skills through critical reflection on practice situations and understanding of the supporting theory. Taught content will be based on four key themes of leadership, management, decision-making and working with others.
