BSc Music Informatics

  • Objectives Music Informatics is a new programme unique to the University of Westminster offering a practical and theoretical understanding of the audio industry. The recent developments in music, audio production and their related industries have created a whole new market for digital music composition, computer sequencing and audio programming skills. Furthermore, audio is playing an increasingly significant role in the world of online development, interface design and user experience, whilst maintaining its significant traditional role in visual entertainments, such as gaming and film. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly clear that 'music informatics' is now an integral part of computing development, both academically and professionally, as sound is such a vital component off all multimedia applications in the 21st Century.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements Individual entry requirements vary from course to course, but all successful international applicants will need to have the required academic qualifications, together with the required level of English language competency. In addition, some postgraduate courses may require work experience.

    Programme

    The Harrow School of Computer Science, in partnership with the School of Media, Art and Design, will offer the new BSc Music Informatics to meet the requirements of these areas of development. The course will seek to educate students interested in music and computers in the following areas:

    *The symbolic analysis and synthesis of music and its application to music production and composition

    *algorithms for music analysis and synthesis

    *computer programming for multimedia

    *virtual instrument design

    *digital audio production skills

    *applications of music technology in games

    *computer animation and multimedia products

    *advanced human-machine interfaces

    *virtual reality
