BSc Microbiology

  • Entry requirements Entry requirements * 200-260 points including a minimum of 180 points from two full 6-unit awards or one full 12-unit award * Post-16 qualifications should include at least one science subject at A2-Level, preferably Biology * You should have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or Key Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level 2 * If you've got other qualifications or relevant experience - check out the UCAS tariff conversion table via the UCAS website

    Programme

    -Year 1 investigates themes such as chemistry for biosciences, human form and function, and plants and environment. It provides an introduction to microbiology and animal diversity, and examines the molecular basis of disease.

    -Year 2 modules include Aseptic Practice, and Molecular and Cellular Biosciences. The second year also considers form and function in biosciences, and allows you to undertake a biology practical.

    -In Year 3 – if you choose not to opt for a work placement – your choice of study areas includes Biosciences in Society, Fungal Genetics, Gene Manipulation, Medical Microbiology and Public Health, and Microbial Biotechnology. You also undertake a research project of your choice.
