BSc Meteorology

  • Objectives This degree offers you a unique opportunity to study this increasingly important science in a way that is both wide-ranging and deep. It covers the breadth of specialisms within the subject and the allied science oceanography. Year 1 introduces you to the essential basic building blocks of atmospheric science and weather systems. You'll also study some useful applied mathematics compulsorily along with a choice of more mathematics, soil science or geology. The second year extends your knowledge and understanding of both meteorology and allied sciences, along with the other subjects that you choose as options. The third and final year is taken up totally by meteorological modules and the independently-produced project.
  • Entry requirements There are different entry qualifications for each programme. Some programmes require you to have a certain amount of knowledge in a subject before you begin the degree programme – this is called a ‘subject requirement’. Other programmes do not have any specific subject requirements. All programmes will, however, expect you to have reached a certain standard in your education and will ask you to achieve certain grades in your examinations. Most programmes have a standard offer so that you know in advance what you are likely to need. Please note that even if you have the minimum entry qualifications, you are not necessarily guaranteed a place on the degree programme.
