BSc Media Production

  • Objectives * Access to BBC facilities at Wood Norton (television production modules) * Combination of practical and technical approaches such as 3D modelling and kinematics * Emphasis on developing finished media products such as television programmes, videos etc * Opportunities to specialise after completing Year One.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements * Normally 240 UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of two subjects at Advanced Level (or equivalent)* And * Normally five GCSE?s at grade C or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths. However, we are also keen to talk to mature students (21+) who have relevant industry experience and/or relevant training but who do not meet the above formal qualifications. We encourage applicants from a broad range of academic backgrounds who wish to study the technical aspects of media production. *BTEC Diploma/Certificate, Advanced VCE(s), Advanced GNVQ, Scottish Higher and Irish Leaving Certificate.

    Programme

    This programme offers students the technical foundations and practical skills needed to assume leadership roles as designers and producers of digital media. Access to the facilities of the BBC Training Centre at Wood Norton as part of the teaching for the television production modules provides an unrivalled opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies.

    Programme topics include:

        * Digital imaging, still, moving, 3D and compositing
        * Video production, studio practice and post-production
        * Audio and radio production, integrated sound and media
        * 3D modelling and kinematics, compositing with live action
        * Multimedia animation production, Internet and 3D animation
        * Video technology, high definition and digital formats
        * Television production.

    Television production is taught in conjunction with the BBC and includes topics such as television systems, studio practice, cameras, sound and lighting, post-production and visual effects, vision timing and synchronisation, and broadcast. This may involve short periods away from the University campus and students may incur some modest additional costs. In the final year, students work on a practice-based project enabling them to use their skills and experience fully.
