Entry requirementsSelected entry requirements English language: All entrants must have a recognised English language qualification, such as GCSE grade C or better, IELTS with an overall score of at least 6.0 or an equivalent qualification A level: Grades AAB where mathematics must be at grade A including grades AB in modules C3 and C4 (in either order). Grades ABB accepted if this includes Further Mathematics. General Studies is welcomed but is not included as part of the offer. Two AS levels are sometimes accepted in place of a non-mathematical A level. Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications. Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes. GCSE: Minimum grade C in English Language. Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University. International baccalaureate: 33 points overall including 16 points at Higher level. Higher level points must include 6 in Mathematics. This very flexible single-honours degree programme offers you the widest choice of options, ideal if you are mathematically gifted and wish to keep your options open. You get good all-round mathematical knowledge together with the ability to experience more specialised results, methods and ideas. You can choose courses from other disciplines and from a wide variety of mathematics options, allowing you to graduate with finely-honed skills in your chosen areas. A core of basic mathematics provides you with the fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills, and the basis for more advanced work later on. This core material is covered in the first three semesters, up to the mid-point of your second year. You develop your capacity to learn and apply mathematical ideas, to understand the significance and power of mathematics, and to acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding of those mathematical topics that any employer would expect of a mathematics graduate. In the second semester of your second year, you choose from a range of options in preparation for later, more advanced, course units in which you can pursue your mathematical interests. You can also, from your second year onwards, choose some options from other subject areas. In your final year you can choose to do a project on a mathematical topic supervised by a member of staff.
