  • Objectives Business is increasingly dependent upon new technology. Sophisticated use of computing power allied to networks of connectivity is causing fundamental shifts in the business paradigm. This degree creates computing professionals who have a keen awareness of modern commerce and the requirements it places on the technologies it employs.
  • Entry requirements Required subjects: A level maths or computer science preferred IB score: 30 (5 at higher level Mathematics or Computer Science)

    Programme

    Year one

    You will be introduced to the key concepts and tools underpinning e-commerce and digital business. You will learn how to program in Java and a variety of Web programming languages and meet the areas of mathematics you will need later in the course. You will also be introduced to business economics and study the requirements digital business places on the computing technologies which support it. You will also select two Business School approved options.

    Year two

    In this year you will learn about business and e-commerce system design. You will study the components of large scale computer systems, such as networks, databases, the Internet and Web services. You will learn about marketing and how these technologies can be used to enhance it. You will also select three optional modules from within the School of Computer Science and a further two from the Business School approved options.

    Year three

    This year you will apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired by undertaking an individual project. You may select a topic from a list proposed by a member of staff or propose an idea of your own. You will also study the use of networked computer systems within organisations, looking at issues such as security and the effect these systems have on management strategy. You will also select one optional module from within the School of Computer Science and one from the Business School approved options.
