BSc Chemistry

  • Objectives Our Chemistry courses aim to develop these qualities. Broadly based on chemistry, they offer wider career opportunities through the choice of one of the specialised degrees listed above. First year modules provide a foundation across the field of chemistry and a sound base for more advanced study in the later stages of the course. In the second year you will also be able to study an option in analytical chemistry, modern biology, business, medicinal chemistry, forensic science, or chemical engineering in addition to more advanced aspects of chemistry. There is an optional work experience placement in the third year. The final year includes a research project, more advanced topics in modern chemistry and further modules in your chosen option.
  • Practical experience Supervised Work Experience lasting 48 weeks. Nationwide and abroad. This year is invaluable as it not only builds confidence but also provides that vital element of relevant experience which so many employers demand. All placements are arranged and monitored by staff in consultation with students.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements Typical points score for entry 200 points. Specific requirements for this course are a pass in GCSE Mathematics at grade C or equivalent. At least one 6-unit award and at least two 3-unit awards, one of which must be chemistry or combined science. We welcome applications from candidates with Edexcel/BTEC or non-standard qualifications. We consider all applications individually.
