    Programme

-In Year 1 you can explore how animals have evolved solutions to problems of survival posed by different environments. You can study bacteria, algae, protozoa, fungi and the viruses, or focus on the molecular basis of disease. Study how plants grow, survive and adapt, and gain key basic laboratory, safety, IT and study skills.

-Year 2 allows you to assess the development of evolutionary theory from Darwin to the modern synthetic theory. Examine how living organisms solve problems such as feeding, reproduction and respiration, and gain the practical techniques required to support theory in organismal biology.

-Your final year – whether or not you opt for a work placement – explores advanced topics and issues in animal biology, ecology and behaviour. Food safety is considered, as is the impact of plant biotechnology in an environmental, ethical and social context. Explore the central role fungi play in biotechnology and molecular biology, or how microbiologists contribute to the prevention, treatment and control of infectious diseases. You also undertake an Honours project of your choice.
