Objectives
Biochemistry is the study of the molecular basis of life. Students are taught the fundamentals of biological chemistry, metabolism, cell biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, physiology and immunology. Experimentation is central to all aspects of biochemistry and so you are trained in laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis and presentation. In the second and third year you focus on the use of biochemistry in industrial applications, biophysical techniques used in understanding biological processes and the relationship between protein structure and function.
