BSc Applied Computer Engineering

  • Objectives This programme is for those who want to develop combined skills in software and hardware, with an emphasis on system design. The opportunity for applying these skills in a range of small and large-scale industrial and commercial applications provides a wide range of career possibilities. The programme will introduce you to the theory and practice of both computer science and electronics so that you will be able to integrate software and hardware to solve technical problems in computing. You will learn how to program operating systems, networks, compilers, graphical user interfaces and embedded systems, and to design digital integrated circuits and apply software engineering techniques so that you can play a full part in a team of mixed hardware and software designers.
  • Entry requirements There are different entry qualifications for each programme. Some programmes require you to have a certain amount of knowledge in a subject before you begin the degree programme – this is called a ‘subject requirement’. Other programmes do not have any specific subject requirements. All programmes will, however, expect you to have reached a certain standard in your education and will ask you to achieve certain grades in your examinations. Most programmes have a standard offer so that you know in advance what you are likely to need. Please note that even if you have the minimum entry qualifications, you are not necessarily guaranteed a place on the degree programme.
