Electronic systems are used just about everywhere in modern society. Electronics has been taught at Westminster for more than 110 years. The strong mathematical and theoretical teaching approach of this course coupled with its practical project work will equip you with the know-how to become a system designer, researcher, and a number of other roles within the industry. Our graduates have gone on to work for organisations such as the BBC, British Aerospace, BSkyB, BT, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Nokia, Orange, Panasonic, Philips and Sony, as well as for smaller private companies. Several have started up their own businesses.
Depending on your interests, you can tailor your curriculum from several diverse areas of study such as embedded systems, digital communications, microelectronic systems and wireless systems.
Course content:
The course aims to provide an exciting, enjoyable and rewarding learning experience which will serve as a solid foundation for a professional engineering career.
You will be able to explore the analysis and design of a wide range of systems – including discrete and continuous-time signal processing, digital systems, communications systems, real-time embedded computer systems and analog circuit techniques – before you specialise in your final year.
Project-based learning plays a large part in the course, with project modules highly valued by employers.
The course shares a common Year 1 with the Computer Systems and Robotics BEng Honours degree, and if you wish you can transfer courses at the end of that year. Subject to performance, it is also possible to transfer from the BEng to the four-year Electronic Engineering MEng course at the end of Year 2.
Teaching methods include lectures and seminars, laboratory work and computer-aided engineering, group and individual projects, and online learning.
Assessments include formal exams, group work, written reports, and presentations and posters.
