Course description
Programme Overview
During Level 1 our aim is to provide you with a common level of experience across a broad base of engineering topics and introduce the core personal and professional competencies of communication and teamwork. A feature of this level is the various intensive modules such as the week-long geology field course and the two-week long modules in surveying and structural design. These, along with a number of site visits, offer a refreshing and interactive approach to learning, with the emphasis on the participation of you and your fellow students.
At Level 2, you will cover the major subjects of civil engineering science in depth, alongside action-centred leadership and further opportunities to consolidate your communication skills. Emphasis is also placed on small group and individual project and design work, together with practical, laboratory-based experience.
During Level 3, you will have the opportunity to specialise. In addition to core material (structural, geotechnical/hydraulic engineering and management studies), you will be able to choose from a list of optional modules and have the opportunity to undertake an in-depth individual project on a topic of interest to you. Recent projects include 'Inelastic earthquake spectra and 'New opportunities for the design of sustainable housing systems.
