BEng Automotive Design

  • Objectives The Automotive Design course provides a sound understanding of the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and engineering design. You will have the opportunity to use state-of-the-art automotive test equipment including a full vehicle four post suspension test rig, a two wheel engine and transmission test rig and a range of engine test beds. Professional software packages are integrated into the areas of the course that deal with vehicle design, aerodynamics, chassis strength and stiffness and suspension systems. The course provides a balanced range of design approaches such as reverse engineering, investigative projects, failure analysis and both open ended and tightly constrained design projects.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements General entry requirements Direct Entry to MEng: A2 and AS levels: 260 points including Mathematics at A2 level and at least one other Science/Technology subject, or AVCE in Engineering, Science or Manufacturing including relevant optional units with 260 points. Progression to MEng is possible following good performance on the first two years of the appropriate MEng/BEng course. Entry to MEng/BEng(Hons): A2 and AS levels: 220 points including Mathematics and at least one other Science/Technology subject, or AVCE in Engineering, Science or Manufacturing including relevant optional units with 220 points, or BTEC National Diploma or Certificate with at least four Level III merits/distinctions including Mathematics and two other technically relevant subjects. Entry is also possible from the School's Engineering Foundation Year.
