Entry requirementsEntry requirements Practice requirements: * Direct experience of youth, community or play work (usually 12 months or equivalent) * Additionally, applicants should be highly motivated, efficient in time management and committed to participative learning. Academic requirements: * Applicants under 21 should normally have a minimum of 160 points in relevant subjects * Mature students (over 21) may offer a pass in a relevant Access to HE Certificate, or an academic and professional portfolio as agreed with the University. Employer based route: * Employer based applicants must be working, paid or voluntary, for 240 practical sessions per year * All applicants, whether employer based or full-time, who meet the programme requirements will be interviewed * Interviewees complete Criminal Records Disclosure forms and must have enhanced CRB clearance prior to placement.

Programme
The programme is validated by the National Youth Agency as providing a professional qualification (recognised by the JNC) in youth and community work. Tutors are committed to anti-oppressive practice and social justice.
In Year One, students take a broad practice-orientated course covering key themes and professional approaches to working with young people and communities. Students also undertake their first supervised field placement. Employer based students do this in their place of work.
In the second year, students develop their skills and understanding of youth and community work, society and social policy. Students also develop a greater understanding of inter-agency work, community development and management. Some students will take a second field placement and complete their studies with a DipHE (with professional qualification). Other students take the opportunity for self directed specialist study supported by a member of academic staff.
Year Three students will develop their research skills, extend their range of practical and managerial skills, and prove their competence in a second supervised placement. Employer based students can complete the BA Honours in three to five years.
