Course description
Theatre Studies offer a broadly diverse study of one of the oldest and most significant forms of human experience. You will investigate dramatic literature and the practices of theatre from historical, critical, aesthetic and experiential perspectives. The focus throughout the degree on theatre and culture locates the study of theatre in its historical and global social context.
Our programmes adopt a multidisciplinary approach to theatre theory and practice. You will benefit from close links with dance studies, cultural studies, media and communication studies. You can also choose to combine the study of theatre with English Literature allowing you to focus on the relationships between dramatic literature and performance practice.
Subject to availability, a placement will help enhance your employability by gaining experience in degree-related professions such as community work, cultural policy, media, creative arts and arts education. The development of professional skills and experience is a key element in the design of all our programmes, therefore studying Theatre Studies at Surrey will enable you to develop your interests in theatre as well as your career prospects.
Our programmes provide you with a firm foundation in the study of theatre to meet the demands of the creative industries in the future.
