BA Sound Arts and Design

  • Objectives This BA Honours degree covers the ways in which sound has become an essential part of media and the creative arts. It will consider areas such as sound for film, sound for the internet and multimedia, sound arts and sound in the environment as well as sound and music as independent media.

    The course is delivered by a team of practising sound artists, composers and musicians supplemented by visiting speakers and tutors. Throughout the course you will be building up your portfolio of creative sound work through a diverse range of projects.
  • Entry requirements 2 'A' levels /AVCE (including 3 AS levels) grade A-C and 5 GCSE passes grade A-C (or equivalent) or EDEXCEL/BTEC HND or ND and a relevant Foundation course.

    Additional entry requirements
    Applicants should have experience of producing some original sound. Those selected for interview are required to bring examples of their work.

    Year Three

    Year three will provide you with a stimulating and supportive environment in which to consolidate your studies and produce a portfolio of creative sound design work. You will also produce a substantial piece of written work on an agreed topic which integrates the techniques, practice, aesthetic and contextual background provided by the other modules of the course. In this year, you will continue to develop and refine the range of independent practical skills and critical awareness necessary for the professional environment and/or postgraduate study. There will be some lectures and workshops, but much of the teaching time will be in small group seminars and tutorials. The core units will provide the support and additional skills needed to produce the portfolio and the dissertation.
