BA Public Relations

  • Objectives Public Relations is a dynamic, challenging, and rewarding industry. It is essentially the management of reputation and therefore, it is at the heart of the corporate and communications mix for all organisations. This key position within the strategic business management process ensures that PR professionals deliver 'added-value’ to their organisations. While preparing you for a career in public relations, this degree course also encourages you to develop your own enterprise skills so that you will profit from your creative ideas in a wider context. You will become aware of means available for communicating ideas, products and services to a wide range of audiences.
  • Entry requirements Applicants with some, or all of the following achievements will be considered for admission to the programme: * two or more 'A' Level passes with at least 3 GCSE passes at grade C or above * an Edexcel GNVQ at Advanced Level (or equivalent) at Merit Level * Access Certificate recognised by the National Open College Network with at least 16 (48) Credits at level 3 * have developed a successful career in relevant area to a level that the team, through a process of accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning AP(E)L considers being the equivalent of academic achievement

    Programme

    Year 1 provides the underpinning knowledge to place your ideas within the context of the contemporary environment of communications. You will have the opportunity to study selected fundamental aspects of the communications sector and how it is organised. Essential marketing and communication concepts are also introduced and you will be able to identify how these are used by both commercial and non-for-profit organisations.

    Year 2 focuses on the management aspects of the public relations sector, with time spent on a short period of simulated work-based learning. Every successful enterprise concentrates upon the requirements of customers and therefore this is examined during the second year. In addition there is also the opportunity to take an elective unit that is of general interest to you.

    Year 3 includes strategic planning and management of change as applied to the management of reputation through public relations. The final project allows you to investigate a specific area of this via your own original research.
