Objectives
We aim to give students an in-depth understanding of politics and political issues, supported by a range of personal transferable skills, including communication and presentation skills, working in groups, writing reports and essays, gathering information and planning projects. Above all, the department provides a friendly and supportive environment for students. Teaching and research cover a range of topics, including Political Behaviour, Public Policy, Political Theory and International/Comparative Politics. The geographical areas covered include Europe (Central, Southern and Eastern Europe and the European Union), the Americas, Asia and Africa. Students may apply to spend their second year abroad through the Erasmus/Study Abroad Scheme. At level one, you will take five core and three unrestricted modules, including Introduction to Political Analysis, Comparing Modern Polities, British Politics, Human Nature, Reason and Desire: An Introduction to Western Political Thought and The Globalisation of World Politics. At levels two and three you deepen your subject knowledge by taking further core and optional modules followed by a project module or a dissertation.

Entry requirements GCE/VCE A Levels - AAB Two GCE A Levels plus two GCE AS Levels - AA+AB Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers - AAAB-AABB/AAB-BBB Irish Leaving Cert. - AAABB-ABBBB BTEC Level N - 2 Distinctions and 1 Merit International Baccalaureate - 35-32 points Core Requirements - At least two GCE A Levels. If Politics is taken, a grade B is required
