Students study four set modules in their first year, giving them a sound understanding of both media theory and practice. In the second and third years students can select from a wide range of modules as they start to specialize in their particular fields of interest.
Modules available to Media Studies students include:

In the third year, students also complete a dissertation on a topic of their choice which allows them to develop and research their specialist interests
Many of the practical modules are run in collaboration with the media industry and allow students to work on real-life case studies, go on work experience placements and visit media organizations. Guest media industry lecturers are also a regular feature on practical courses. In addition, students have the opportunity to work on DMUs award-winning student radio station, Demon FM and the Universitys Demon newspaper.
