  • Objectives Terrorism, war, the power of the European Union over member states and international attempts to prevent hunger and abuse of human rights are amongst the concerns of International Relations. It examines the contemporary international system to establish its structure, actors and inequalities. You will examine the practices of states and other groups, including international organisations and multinational companies.

    Year 1

    Students take the module Politics Beyond the Nation State and Foreign Policy. Your other two modules are selected from a range of other subjects including Politics, Philosophy, History, Sociology and Modern Languages.

    Years 2 and 3

    You take at least seven and may take eight modules in International Relations. Global Politics: Contemporary Perspectives is compulsory, introducing students to theories and perspectives used in the study of international relations. Other modules are chosen from over thirty options covering international law, the European Union, American foreign policy, origins of the First World War, the British Empire, ethnic conflict, migration and asylum seekers. A dissertation module may be taken in the final year.
