Objectives
This course was the first independent degree programme in illustration, and has built its reputation on being broad and experimental; not accepting a narrow definition of illustration, but encouraging the subject to expand into new and varied areas of image based practice.

Entry Requirements Applicants will need to have the required academic qualifications, together with the required level of English language competency. In addition, some postgraduate courses may require work experience.

Programme
Year 1
Introduces you to key concepts and skills in image-making. The programme includes drawing, visual communication, narrative, text and image.
Projects cover a wide spectrum of subjects with problem soving requirements, they are designed to encourage you to think imaginatively and develop your practice in a creative and experimental way.
Year Two
This level is all about illustration, from the original problem solving demands of briefs to the contextual considerations of siting, audience, scale, reproduction and presentation. Projects at this level combine self-defined work with external competitions, and briefs set by visiting professionals. Students have the opportunity to develop specialist areas of their practice. Special events are the Level 5 exhibition, in London Gallery West.
Year Three
As you progress into your final year issues concerning your future after graduation become increasingly focused and with this the distinctive development of your own practice and your professional aspirations in the world of illustration and image design. The professional practice module includes all aspects of preparation for work, from talks given by illustrators, animators, designers and art directors, to workplacement opportunities, and information on establishing your own business, tax, copyright, accounts, promotion etc. As a member of the D&AD, and the AOI, the course encourages students to attend lectures,portfolio reviews and other initiatives offered by these organizations. Our degree show last year was at the Truman Brewery as part of Free Range, and students also have a large stand in the 'New Blood' organized yearly by the D&AD.
