    Programme

    This is a Modern History programme. It not only helps you to understand how the modern world came into being, but also provides you with context and understanding for the other subject in your joint honours degree. There are also field trips and opportunities to study abroad, eg in the USA.

    In your first year you will study two introductory modules in History, focusing on the making of the modern world and an introduction to History.

    In year two, you have free choice of what to study. You can choose 2 modules from a wide range normally including The Russian Revolution, The Second World War, the Cold War, US Ethnic History, British India 1857-1947 plus others.

    In year three, you once again have free choice. You can choose 2 modules from a wide range, normally including Stalinism, Genocide in the Twentieth Century, Vietnam, Poland Since 1918, plus others. The 10000 word dissertation provides an opportunity to produce an authentic piece of historical research.
