ObjectivesOn the history side of this course, you will reflect on the nature of history as a discipline, and develop the skillsm required for the writing and debating of history. Year two involves planning, researching and writing an analysis of the historiography of a topic of your choice, allowing you to develop independence of mind and critical abilities. On the art history side, you will take core modules concerned with analytical skills relevant to the study of works of art, in a variety of media, taken from a variety of historical and geographical backgrounds.

Programme
Year one
The History core is Learning History, a skill and methodology based module. The emphasis is on reflecting on the nature of history as a discipline and to develop the skills required for the writing and debating of history. In Art History, you must take V41152 and V41110 Introduction to Art History I and II. These are core modules concerned with analytical skills relevant to the study of works of art, in a variety of media, taken from a variety of historical and geographical backgrounds, and also a combination of further optional modules.
Year two
The History core module is Exploring Historiography, intended to develop independence of mind and critical abilities, which involves planning, researching and writing a 5,000-word analysis of the historiography of a topic of your choice. In Art History, you can take a combination of further optional modules.
Year three
In History, you select a special subject and one optional module. In Art History you have the option to complete a 20-credit dissertation (6,000-7,000 words) providing opportunity for extended independent study under the supervision of a tutor, and you can take a combination of further optional modules.
