BA Fine Art

  • Objectives The course introduces students to the broad range of contemporary fine art practice to encourage progressive specialisation in one or a combination of painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, site-based practice, and digital and time-based media. The course facilitates wide student choice, with opportunities for full-time and part-time study.
  • Entry requirements Art and Design Foundation, BTEC, National Diploma or equivalent accepted. Normally applicants attend an interview and present their portfolio. Alternatively, Access/A level/AS level/Vocational A level: normally 220-300 points plus portfolio.

    Programme

    Fine Art Year 1

        * You undertake a common first year that establishes a basic understanding of the interaction between materials, processes and ideas
        * Through both critical studies and studio modules, diverse traditions are introduced and examined in order to inform you of the potential challenges facing the practitioner

    Fine Art Year 2

        * You are introduced to negotiated, self-directed study, whereby you outline your own project aims, research strategy, intentions, expected outcomes and appropriate media
        * You are introduced to self-evaluation to develop critical skills and reflection
        * You can participate in a large accredited international exchange programme

    Fine Art Year 3

        * Develop a body of work in conjunction with a thesis, special project or critical commentary
        * Take responsibility for the development of a visual language
        * Address the collective or social context of your work, and the relationship between practitioner and audience
