BA English Language & Linguistics

  • Objectives Human language is a creative, sophisticated tool that we use for many purposes. It is a communication system that relies for its expression on the human brain and body. It is also a social activity that reflects the attitudes and values of the larger culture that produces it. While each individual acquires his or her own language 'fingerprints' that are unique, there are also striking similarities between the forms of language used by the members of social groups such as age groups, gender groups and cultural groups.
