ObjectivesThis course emphasises both traditional English studies and creative writing. You will study various texts and consider the context of your work. We offer an encouraging environment and teach you to move beyond modes of simple self-expression. Develop a sense of craft as you practise various forms including: poetry, fiction, life writing, travel writing and dramatic writing (stage and screen).
Entry requirementsEntry requirements 240 points. A level/AS level/Vocational A level, including English at grade B. Equivalent qualifications may be considered.

Year 1
* This year follows the BA English curriculum and offers a sound foundation on which to build your ideas
* Study modules such as critical theory, reading poetry, rhetoric and textual relations
* Begin your practice of creative writing as you learn about various narrative strategies
Year 2
* Take core literary modules - Romanticism and Victorianism as you work to develop your sense of writing as a craft
* Core modules in creative and dramatic writing are workshop-based and introduce you to various writing forms and techniques
* Creative options include autobiography, travel writing, and crime documentary
Year 3
* Core modules bridge your writing and reading experience as you study diverse examples of the short story and contemporary poetry
* More workshop-based practice engages writing as a process requiring research and revision
* Set your own year-long project: a 10,000-word creative dissertation which you will work on with a personal tutor
