BA Economics with French

  • Objectives The aim of these degrees is to produce high quality economic analysts who are fluent in a language, rather than linguists with some training in economics. As a result, you will study the same core economics modules as those taking BA (Hons) Economics. The language component represents around one-third of the modules taken, and includes a variety of formal language instruction and modules on the economy and society of the country in question. You will also spend a year abroad improving your language skills.

    Year one

    Introduction to Microeconomics, Quantitative Economics 1 & 2, Introduction to Macroeconomics, compulsory language modules (french, german, russian, spanish) , plus optional modules

    Year two

    Microeconomic Theory, Quantitative Economics 3, Macroeconomic Theory, Careers Skills, compulsory and optional language modules, plus optional economics modules

    Year three

    Spent abroad in a country that speaks the language you are studying, either in an institution of higher education or in a work placement by your own arrangement.

    Year four

    10,000-word dissertation in economics, plus optional economics and language modules
