BA Early Primary Education

  • Objectives The three-year Early Primary course leads to an honours degree and recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), accredited by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). During the course you learn about all the National Curriculum subjects, with a focus on teaching and learning in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (age range three to seven).
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements English Language, Mathematics and Science GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent (equivalency tests are offered if you do not hold the relevant GCSEs). Satisfy the requirements of the Qualifying to Teach standards. Relevant and sustained professional experience in primary schools or early years settings. You must be able to communicate in standard spoken and written English and your reading skills need to be good. Medical and criminal clearance records checks for suitability to teach. We arrange these during the application process. You should also have one of the following totalling a minimum of 240 UCAS points: A minimum of 2 Advanced GCE awards or equivalent. BTEC National Diploma (with at least three Level III merits). AVCE double award. A vocational A level. Completion of a Foundation Course in early childhood or a related educational area. Applications may be considered if you do not hold the qualifications listed above, with the exception of the GCSE requirements which are mandatory for all initial Teacher Training courses.
